From the artist:
This is the rock sculpture that birthed the Easter rock book, He is Risen. The Garden of Gethsemane was created first, before any of the other Easter story scenes. I couldn't wait to get to my rocks to see what would emerge. Rocks on Jesus's back was the perfect metaphor for Jesus taking on all our sorrows, pain, abuses, mistakes, sins and everything that keeps us separate from God. Later, I tearfully watched a mother explain this picture to her young children, and saw their wide eyes as they grappled with the meaning. Even little children are touched by the Spirit, and can understand the Gift of Christ. If you look closely, you'll find a red tear-shaped rock, representing the scripture that said, "being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground" Luke 22:44. Below is a video of the rocks telling the story of the Garden of Gethsemane and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
All rocks were handpicked in the wilderness by the artist, Patti, and no rocks we modified in any way, (except soaked and brushed clean).
This rock sculpture is also found in the book, He is Risen - Rocks Tell The Story of Easter, by Patti Rokus, published 2019.
